YAC Meeting

November 16th, 1999

Present: Ivan, Frances, Evan, Gillian, Tim, Kate, Michael and Gaia

We began by confirming that YAC meetings start at 7pm NOT 7:30

Recap of LDC

It was great to see so many freshman. We will truly have leadership throughout the classes. The facilitators were great and involvment is high.

Kirkwood Conference

Brandon Smith of the Palatine church has asked if we are interested in sharing a bus to the January Con. This would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 per passenger assuming a full bus (46 passengers). (NSUC would be reimbursing each car or van that went $180. Assuming we send vans witha bout 8 people in each, the cost would be about $25 per passenger.)

Palatine envisions 15 of their youth and advisors going. (Some of our group thought this was an optimistic number, given how untogether the Palatine group is. Hwever, part of their motivation is to get some of our good energy during the bus trip.) A real plus to going by bus is that sleep deprived advisors would not be driving back.

Gaia will get back to Brandon and tell him we are interested but not committed at this time. In the meantime, Evan will talk with 2U and Evanston to find out how they are going. 2U has mention train as a possibility.

No matter what, Evan is committed to getting the con sign up completed by the middle of December. Even if we do go by van, we will have to arrange for enough drivers, perhaps borrow vans, etc. All this needs lead time.

Travel to Cons

Who should pay: the entire youth group (or their funds) or the individuals who go? Evan will bring this issue to the group.

Social Action Grants

The group gave $300 to the AIDS walk. Social action grant applications have been mailed to all members of the group with the recent Erin's Eyes. The group will consider grants at a future date.

Battle of the Bands

Ivan asked Sharon Diaz to give us a February date. There would be an additional cost on February 5th because we would have to pay Tom to come in and clean up from a wedding. The 12th is problematic because it is close to Valentine's Day and schools might be having parties. Sharon has suggested the 19th. Ivan needs to clear that date with Claudette Dirsmith, to make sure she would be here. (Gaia is out of town that weekend.) Everyone is double checking with their school calendar to look for conflicts.

Will will talk with Bob Grand about sound equipment.

Gillian has a friend she will ask to be D.J. She will also check out where we could get wholesale candy.

Kate has spoken with Bill Scott about security. He says we sould set this up with the Lake County Sheriff's office--way in advance. And we should plan on paying around $55/hr ($275) max. We also need to be sure we contact Bannockburn and Deerfield police and let them know we are having the dance.

Chingo and Billy

It's the third annual, and an event anticipated by many. Tentative date, March 18th, is on the calendar.

Con-Con

Gaia just warned everyone that this was expensive and needs to be planned for.

Next meeting: Tuesday, December 21st, 7pm.
